About Us
LearnMathsToday is a Singapore-based learning platform designed to make quality math education accessible to every student. We focus on practical, no-fluff explanations that help students actually understand concepts rather than memorise them.
The platform was created by a former engineer from Google and Apple, who built the backend and learning engine with one goal in mind: bringing high-quality, affordable math support to students across Singapore and beyond.
Today, LearnMathsToday is supported by a small community of volunteers who help strengthen the content, outreach, and user experience. Together, we're working to ensure that every student, regardless of background, has access to clear, confidence-building math learning.
It started with a girl who just couldn't get fractions.
I was tutoring her, a Secondary 3 student who'd fallen so far behind in maths that we were revisiting the same concepts. Every week, I'd explain the same thing. Every week, she'd forget. It wasn't that she wasn't trying. She just needed to hear it more than once, at her own pace, on her own time.
That's when it hit me: she didn't need me to repeat myself. She needed a video she could replay.
So I started recording short lessons. Simple, focused explanations aligned to Singapore's syllabus. I put them on YouTube. They took off. Over 150,000 views from students who, like that girl, just needed someone to walk them through it one more time.
But videos alone weren't enough. I looked at what was out there — the maths apps, the AI tutors — and two things stood out. First, they were overpriced. Families were paying premium subscriptions for content that wasn't even aligned to the Singapore curriculum. Second, and this was the big one: none of them could mark a student's working. They could check if your final answer was right, but maths isn't just about the answer. It's about the method. In Singapore's exams, students write on paper, and every step matters.
As an engineer who'd spent years building products at Big Tech companies in the US, I knew this was a solvable problem. AI had come far enough. Handwriting recognition, photo-based problem solving, adaptive feedback. The technology existed. Someone just needed to put it together in a way that actually served Singapore students.
So I came home, and built LearnMathsToday — an app that lets students write naturally, snap a photo of their work, and get feedback not just on the answer, but on every step that got them there.
Because every student deserves a tutor who never gets tired of explaining it one more time.
Our Team
Shaowei
Shaowei is a computing graduate from the National University of Singapore and holds a postgraduate degree from McGill University in Canada. He spent years in the US tech industry, working at Google and Apple, and previously served as an AI engineer at an early stage startup that was acquired by Apple for $200 million. After returning home to Singapore, he founded MindMason and built LearnMathsToday, combining his passion for education with his engineering expertise to create an AI-powered maths learning platform designed specifically for Singapore students.
